Dirty Heads at Sweetwater’s Throwdown

Events, music

I went to my first Dirty Heads concert in October of last year. Honestly, I only bought the tickets because one of my favorite bands was opening for them (The Unlikely Candidates) at one of my favorite venues in Atlanta. I knew a few Dirty Head songs but definitely didn’t realize how many I would recognized or how much fun I’d have jamming along with the tunes I didn’t know.

When I heard Sweetwater Brewery was throwing a huge 21st Anniversary party and Dirty Heads were headlining I figured I needed to go. Another great reason was that I would be able to bring my camera with me this time šŸ™‚

The anniversary party was an all day event with a bunch of bands. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great and the ticket I bought didn’t have in-and-out privileges. So long story short, I got there about an hour before their set. I grabbed a beer and enjoyed the last couple of minutes of Twiddle and scooted forward to prepare for the Dirty Heads.

I got a decent spot for watching the show but not for photographing it. I realized I needed to put myself out there if I wanted to get decent photos (pretty terrifying for me). I wiggled my way as close to the front as I could and asked the women standing there if I could steal their spot for the first two songs just to get photos and then I’d get out of the way. After a little negotiation on their part (first song only), I got my spot for the headliner. They had been holding down the front row for close to 5 hours. I’m so thankful they were willing to share!

Yes I’m a professional photographer but that doesn’t mean I’m done learning and improving. I discover something new almost every time I pick up my camera. Especially when it comes to concert photography. I’m constantly trying to improve my photography skills and the only way I can do that is getting out there, stepping out of my comfort zone, and practicing. That being said if you are an Atlanta artist (musician, painter, dancer, photographer, videographer, sculptor, etc.) interested in collaborating, I’d love to work with you! I’m starting a little late, but in 2018 I’m devoting more time into my craft. Want to help me?

Manchester Orchestra

Events, music

Every year an alternative band from Atlanta (you may have heard of them) Manchester Orchestra performs a concert called The Stuffing. This year was the 8th year, was held at the Tabernacle, and sold out.

Unfortunately I couldn’t go, but thankfully my favorite radio station in Atlanta, Radio 105.7, did a 404 Session with them a few days after the concert and I got in.Ā  404 Sessions are invite only, acoustic concerts held at the station. The band plays a few songs and one of the DJs from the station interviews them between songs.

If you haven’t heard their new album you need to! Chills. The whole thing. Amazing.

You also get a photo with them afterward šŸ™‚

First Competition . . . Sort of.

Events

I’ve been riding horses on and off at the same barn for 15 years. SevenĀ years ago I went to my first cowboy mounted shooting competition. I had only shot a gun once before that. I didn’t do too great but had a fantasticĀ time. I went to a few more and got a little bit better and won the 2008 Georgia State Championship for my class.

For the past year I’ve been working with a new horse that has never been shot off of. When we first got him he had a hard time turning circles and cantering without bucking. We’ve been training him and shooting off of him for the past two or three months at practice shoots at home. He’s been doing great and we decided to bring him to the August shoot in Gainesville. He is the reason I decided to shoot again.

So this was my first competition in 6 yearsĀ and Wyoming’sĀ first competition ever. The title of this post means yes, it was a competition but I had a feeling that we wouldn’t really be that competitive.

Here are a few pictures from the competition.

June Mounted Shooters Competition

Events, People

I went to the Chicopee Woods Agricultural Center for the June PSMSA (Peach State Mounted Shooters Association) Competition. I got some good shots and an AWESOME video (https://lindsayhartmannphoto.wordpress.com/2015/06/09/riding-and-shooting-video/).

These are just a few shots. There are more atĀ www.seemyprints.comĀ  and all are available for purchase. Just click Peach State Mounted Shooting June 2015 and browse through. I tried to get aĀ photo of everyone that rodeĀ butĀ there’s a good chance I either missed a few or they weren’t in focus. Nobody’s perfect right? Enjoy.

Riding and Shooting Video

Events, People

What’s it like riding a horse while shooting a gun you ask?Ā Like this:

AbbeyĀ wore my GoPro while she rode Doc forĀ a couple of rifle stages on Saturday during the Cowboy Mounted Shooting competitionĀ in Gainesville.

She makes it look really easy. Don’t be fooled.

A Resolution

Events

I think in order to be a photographer (with a job) you need to know how to shoot and edit not just still photography but video also. So this year, I resolve to make more videos. It’s January 4th and I’ve already made more than last year (one, ha)! So here it is.

I had my GoPro camera with me during the pre-gaming festivities on New Year’s Eve and decided to make a short video. IĀ had more clips that included beer pong dancing, making of theĀ punch, dogs licking up spilled champagne and an impromptu Avett Brothers acoustic sing along but they didn’t quite fit together cohesively. Enjoy.

Nancy-Leigh and Thomas McIntyre

Events

Friends of mine got married this weekend in Statesboro. It was strange to go to a wedding and not have to take pictures of it. I decided that I would just sit back and enjoy the ceremony without taking my camera out. At the receptionĀ I got a few good pictures of the father-daughter dance and mother-son dance and the cake cutting (There was a vote, Thomas lost).

It was a beautiful wedding and I had a great time watching two friends commit themselves to each other for the rest of their lives and catching up with those I hadn’t seen since graduating. Congratulations Nancy-Leigh and Thomas!
