Ashley and Andrew

Wedding

Wedding planning is pretty stressful. We all know that. If you haven’t been a part of it yourself, you have at the very least heard about it or seen it on TV.  The fact that these two lovebirds planned their wedding from 2,000 miles away is absolutely mind-blowing to me! That’s right, Ashley and Andrew planned their Macon, GA wedding from a ranch outside of Jackson Hole, WY where they work as chefs almost 2,000 miles across the country. They are rock stars and their hard work definitely paid off. Everything was beautiful!

The ceremony and reception was held at the Blacksmith Shop in Macon and it was full of love, laughs, family, some tears, and a ton of lavender! -I’m not sure they predicted how much lavender would end up in their clothes and hair by the end of the day 🙂

I’m so grateful they chose me to capture their special day. It was a pleasure. Here are just a few of my favorites. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Conn!

Dirty Heads at Sweetwater’s Throwdown

Events, music

I went to my first Dirty Heads concert in October of last year. Honestly, I only bought the tickets because one of my favorite bands was opening for them (The Unlikely Candidates) at one of my favorite venues in Atlanta. I knew a few Dirty Head songs but definitely didn’t realize how many I would recognized or how much fun I’d have jamming along with the tunes I didn’t know.

When I heard Sweetwater Brewery was throwing a huge 21st Anniversary party and Dirty Heads were headlining I figured I needed to go. Another great reason was that I would be able to bring my camera with me this time 🙂

The anniversary party was an all day event with a bunch of bands. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great and the ticket I bought didn’t have in-and-out privileges. So long story short, I got there about an hour before their set. I grabbed a beer and enjoyed the last couple of minutes of Twiddle and scooted forward to prepare for the Dirty Heads.

I got a decent spot for watching the show but not for photographing it. I realized I needed to put myself out there if I wanted to get decent photos (pretty terrifying for me). I wiggled my way as close to the front as I could and asked the women standing there if I could steal their spot for the first two songs just to get photos and then I’d get out of the way. After a little negotiation on their part (first song only), I got my spot for the headliner. They had been holding down the front row for close to 5 hours. I’m so thankful they were willing to share!

Yes I’m a professional photographer but that doesn’t mean I’m done learning and improving. I discover something new almost every time I pick up my camera. Especially when it comes to concert photography. I’m constantly trying to improve my photography skills and the only way I can do that is getting out there, stepping out of my comfort zone, and practicing. That being said if you are an Atlanta artist (musician, painter, dancer, photographer, videographer, sculptor, etc.) interested in collaborating, I’d love to work with you! I’m starting a little late, but in 2018 I’m devoting more time into my craft. Want to help me?

Kasey and Colby

Wedding

A white wedding in Atlanta, Georgia in December! Never thought I would say those words in the same sentence. What a beautiful (and quite chilly) day it was for Kasey and Colby’s wedding at the Carl House in Auburn, Georgia. Here are a few of my favorites from their memorable day.

A special thanks to Taylor Trebotte for being my second shooter for the day! She’s awesome and a life saver.

Saints and Sinners Ball 2017

Uncategorized

The fourth annual Radio 105.7 Saints and Sinners Ball was Saturday, October 28. The Struts headlined with support from Mondo Cozmo.

I had seen The Struts live before and was blown away. Flashback to 80s glam rock. Incredible energy and even better music. I can’t wait to see them again.

Mondo Cozmo, on the other hand, I had never heard of. They were a great surprise. They came out decked out in dresses and wigs and rocked. It really is my favorite when I go to a concert not knowing the band and leave excited to go home and find and listen to more of their music.

All in all it was a fantastic night!

And as a bonus I give you crazy eyes:

Manchester Orchestra

Events, music

Every year an alternative band from Atlanta (you may have heard of them) Manchester Orchestra performs a concert called The Stuffing. This year was the 8th year, was held at the Tabernacle, and sold out.

Unfortunately I couldn’t go, but thankfully my favorite radio station in Atlanta, Radio 105.7, did a 404 Session with them a few days after the concert and I got in.  404 Sessions are invite only, acoustic concerts held at the station. The band plays a few songs and one of the DJs from the station interviews them between songs.

If you haven’t heard their new album you need to! Chills. The whole thing. Amazing.

You also get a photo with them afterward 🙂

Cumberland Island Getaway

Places

Last week I went to Cumberland Island and camped a night with my dad. It was GORGEOUS!

For those of you that don’t know, Cumberland Island is one of the largest undeveloped barrier islands off the coast of Georgia. In 1972 it was sold to the National Park Foundation and is now a national seashore (“coastal area federally designated as being of natural and recreational significance as a preserved area”).

The island is famous for the wild horses, untouched beaches, and history (it was once a winter getaway for the Carnegie Family).

We really liked the beach 🙂 Go visit this island! You won’t regret it.

P.S. Don’t forget the bug spray though. The gnats don’t play and WILL eat you alive.

Chelsea and Brad

Wedding

webwatermark_edited_dsc_6406_1Friday was one hot September evening but Chelsea and Brad, and everyone at their wedding for that matter, were troopers. We battled the heat and got some fantastic shots and witnessed an amazingly, sweet couple get married.

Their outdoor ceremony and reception was held at the Indian Springs State Park Stone Pavilion in Flovilla, Georgia.

Charleston South Carolina

Places

I was in Charleston, SC for one of my dance jobs this year. I stayed in an Airbnb (if you haven’t used Airbnb, I HIGHLY recommend it) and then wondered around downtown a little before I went home. My host was fantastic and had a pretty cute little dog running around.

I know, I know, super cliche black and white piano photos. But I loved the light coming in and I was playing with my 50mm lens. Don’t judge.

The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.

City Market was probably my favorite. There’s so much going on and very talented local artists.

Overall it was a great trip. I’m glad I stayed the extra night to explore some. Charleston is a great town and I’ll be happy to visit again.
